Civil engineer, Full Professor of “Building Physics and Building Energy Systems” at Politecnico di Torino, where he teaches “Thermodynamics and heat transfer” and “Building thermophysics”.
Since 2013 he has been Member of the Academic Board of the “Specializing Master and Lifelong Learning School”. From 2011 to 2014 he was Director of post-graduate Master course in “Sustainable buildings and energy efficiency”. Since 2006 he has been in charge of various EU-funded research projects: DATAMINE, TABULA, SEMANCO, EPISCOPE, REPUBLIC_ZEB, OPTIMUS. Author of more than 230 scientific papers, didactic volumes and editorials. Since 2011 he has been president of IBPSA-Italy, the Italian regional affiliate of IBPSA (International Building Performance Simulation Association) and he is a member of the Board of IBPSA-World. Since 2005 he has been the coordinator of Sub-Committee 1 – Working Group 2 (Thermal insulation of buildings – Calculation and test methods) of CTI (Italian thermo-technical committee).
In this capacity he has been the Italian delegate of TC89 (Thermal performance of buildings and building components) of CEN (European Committee for Standardization). Co-chairman of the 6th International Building Physics Conference (IBPC), Torino, 2015. Member of the International Scientific Committees of the following international conferences: 6th IBPC, Torino, 2015; BSA 2015–2nd IBPSA-Italy Conference, Bolzano, 2015; Building Simulation (BS) 2013, Chambery, 2013; BSA 2013 – 1st IBPSA-Italy Conference, Bolzano, 2013; 4th IBPC, Istanbul, 2009; 3rd IBPC, Montreal, August 2006.


Andrea GasparellaProfessor

Management engineer, full Professor of Building Physics and Building Energy Systems at Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, and PhD in Energetics at the University of Padova.
Vice dean for Studies at the Faculty of Science and Technology and director of the BD study program in Industrial Mechanical Engineering, the MD in Energy Engineering and the PhD Sustainable Energy and Technology.
The research activity has been focusing on absorption systems, and in particular on dehumidification of air by liquid desiccant dehumidification, and on building energy performance calculation in relation to energy labelling and energy renovation of existing buildings. The main current interests are in the integrated simulation of energy and comfort performance of buildings, in the simulation calibration and validation and in the combination of labs and onsite measurements with modelling.
Founding member of IBPSA-Italy and currently member of the national board, in 2014-15 he was director at large in the board of IBPSA-World. Member in the Sub-Committee 1 – Working Group 9 (Reference weather data) of CTI (Italian thermo-technical committee) for the definition of the technical standard UNI 10349. Member in the national scientific committee of the 6th IBPC, Torino, 2015; and member in the scientific and organizing committees of BSA 2015–2nd IBPSA-Italy Conference, Bolzano 2015, and BSA 2013 – 1st IBPSA-Italy Conference, Bolzano, 2013. He presented more than 90 papers at international conferences and published more than 40 papers on scientific journals.
